Schedorhinotermes intermedius

Schedorhinotermes

Schedorhinotermes is a South-East Asian and Australasian genus of termites in the family Rhinotermitidae. Schedorhinotermes intermedius occur locally in Ipswich and surrounding areas. They will nest in tree stumps and root crowns of living or dead trees.

They will infest timber buried in the ground, under homes, soil-filled verandahs, and fireplaces. They can have multiple nests that can be difficult to locate as they are subterranean.

Several species of Schedorhinotermes occur throughout Australia that overlaps in their distribution. Schedorhinotermes intermedius is characterised by having two sizes of soldiers that differ in appearance. These are generally known as major soldiers and minor soldiers. The termites can cause severe damage to homes, fences, posts and trees.
